REGULATION, SIMPLIFIED

Open category: three subcategories

The open category of the European regulation covers almost all recreational flights. Your subcategory depends on your drone’s class (C0 to C4) and your training.

A1

A1 — over people

Light drones (C0, C1). No intentional overflight of bystanders, never over crowds.

A2

A2 — close to people

C2 drones with the A2 certificate: down to 30 m from people (5 m in low-speed mode).

A3

A3 — far from people

Heavier drones. 150 m from residential areas, with no bystanders nearby.

Frequently asked questions

Is my drone supported?+

The database covers the main DJI, Autel, Parrot, Potensic models and more. If yours isn’t listed, describe its mass and characteristics: the calculation adapts.

What if my drone has no class marking?+

Since 1 January 2024, drones without a class marking follow a limited regime: A1 below 250 g, A3 above. DroneCheck applies this regime automatically.

Is the service free?+

Yes. The calculator is completely free and requires no account.

Are the rules official?+

They are based on Regulation (EU) 2019/947 and national specifics. Results remain indicative and do not replace checking NOTAMs and temporary restrictions.

Can I use it abroad?+

France and Germany are supported. The architecture is ready to welcome other European countries.
